Celebrating the demise of GrimmerUpNorth
Susan at Grimmer Up North (not pictured) has said she may stop her blog, so I thought that was worth celebrating.
Susan is an original left blogger; she started early – three years counts as early in the blogopshere – and she’s said what she wanted to say.
Recently, she’s posted less, because she’s been on the road a lot more, agitating for the left, and particularly for the Labour Representation Committee.
That’s a good thing. A lot of the comrades she found during her recent blogging years are now people she’s agitating with in the real world. She is an example to all left bloggists of turning late night computer batterings into proper action.
Susan now feels that the blogopshere has moved on, with lots more voices from the left than there were when she started. She’s right, and she’s right because she showed the way for many of us.
She was a daily read for me when I started, because I admired her punchy style as well as the Labour left content; as a windbag, I couldn’t work out how she could get the message into 200 words and less. I’m still wondering.
Susan may be stopping her blog but the left blogsophere owes her an immense gratitude for showing us the way. Susan never got the hang of hyperlinks, or any of the fancier presentation stuff, and it’s that unfussy organisational style that she takes beyond the blogopshere
Dave and I said to Susan by email night that we will miss GrimmerupNorth, if she does indeed decide to close (we urged her not to), but her posts are welcome here any time.
