Council workers kicked in teeth
George Osborne, Conservative conference (October 2009):
You will see that whoever wins the election is going to have to ask from 2011 each part of the public sector to accept a one year pay freeze. We shouldn’t include public servants earning less than £18,000.
Office for National Statistics (19 January 2010):
In the year to December, the consumer prices index (CPI) rose by 2.9 per cent, up from 1.9 per cent in November.
Conservative-controlled Local Government Employers (part of Local Government Association group) (20 January 2010):
I am writing to let you know that the employers have today informed the three trade unions (UNISON, GMB and Unite) that they are unable to offer any increase in pay for 2010/11.

You have to smile my head of the council has made £16,000 rise in wages, the council stated he was being head hunted, the other heads have had a lower rise but again because we are told they are being head hunted, and the council has now come out and said whoops sorry but wage rises for the workers thats not right we are broke.
Funny old world, we had MP’s saying they needed a 10% pay rise to reduce the loss on Expenses.
Do not do as I do, do as I say.
Which council is that, if you don’t mind me asking.
